Healthy Corner Store Collaborative launches Good 2 Go

Through work done in the business development working group, FPAC steering committee member Propeller and FPAC partners Liberty’s Kitchen and Top Box Foods have partnered with City of New Orleans to launch a healthy corner store program in 5 neighborhoods throughout New Orleans, which leverages existing infrastructure in local corner stores to make fresh, healthy foods more accessible to families in food deserts as well as increase profits for store owners. In the first three months of the program, Good 2 Go corner stores have sold 93% of all produce delivered, distributing 3,720 lbs. and generating $5,657 in combined revenue.

The 2017- 2018 corner stores are located in neighborhoods across New Orleans, including Central City, Treme, Bywater, Lower 9th Ward, and Freret.

This program is a great example of using existing infrastructure and leveraging partnerships and funding to both increase the availability of fresh food and add an economic driver in neighborhoods. FPAC is working to help make connections with local growers to add local food to this incredible program as well as help expand the program to more neighborhoods.
